Beginner Photography Workshop

Course Description:

This workshop introduces students to the basic functions of the most important settings in the cameras. They will learn certain important rules about photography that will enhance their photos. We also cover the manual mode of the camera. Students will learn what a light meter is and how it is used. An introduction look at using a fill card will be addressed as well. The idea of workflow will be introduced.

Student Learning Outcomes:

• Students will understand basic concepts of framing and natural light direction.

• Students will understand the EXTREME importance of workflow.

• Students will understand what Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and ISO are and how to use them.

• Students will learn how to deal with difficult lighting situations.

• Students will understand the basic concept of using the manual mode.

• Students will understand how to get a proper exposure using several camera operations.

• Students will understand how useful a fill card is.

• Students will understand the difference between shooting with ambient light and controlling light.

Chris has an MFA in Photography and a BFA in Graphic Design from The Savannah College of Art and Design. He recently moved to Knoxville after working as a commercial photographer and teacher for the past 10 years in the United States and South America. His clients include the cast from Duck Dynasty, United Nations World Food Program, 8-time World Champion Jiu-Jitsu fighter Samuel Braga, the current WBF Super Welter Weight World Champion and the Corinthians American Football Team in Brazil and also some of the top international recording artists of all time in Brazil.
Originally from Maryland, he grew up around the water and nature. His original interest in photography stemmed from this culture, resulting in lots of photos of wildlife and landscapes. Portraiture has also been a heavy influence in his shooting preferences. He started shooting professionally in 2003, doing the photography for recording artists album covers and advertising materials. Today, the main focus of his photography is portraiture. Having jumped into the world of film and television during his studies in the masters program at SCAD, cinematic properties are now often incorporated into his shooting style.
He is currently working in the TV and Film industry doing the lighting for TV shows which provides him plenty of opportunity to do a lot of behind the scenes set photography. Some of the shows he works on are Homicide Hunter, Murder Chose Me, Fatal Attraction, Killer Couples, Justice by Any Means, Snapped, Murder Calls, #Murder, Evidence of Innocence, Atlanta Homicide, Grave Evidence and many more!
